The east bank holds the Old Town, with the astronomical clock and the main square, plus the Jewish quarter of Josefov; the west bank has Malá Strana and, up on the hill, the castle with St Vitus Cathedral. Charles Bridge links the two and is the busiest spot in the city.
The castle is a large complex rather than a single building: allow half a day, and note there are several combined tickets. Sunrise is the only time Charles Bridge is empty. Beer costs less than water in many places and is genuinely part of the local culture, with centuries-old breweries right in the centre. The old town is uneven cobblestone, awkward with wheeled luggage or heels.
