Planning your visit to Venice

Venice has no cars, so everything happens on foot or aboard the vaporetto, the public boat that works as a bus along the Grand Canal. Accept early on that you will get lost: the six sestieri are a maze and GPS struggles between the alleys. St Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace and the Rialto Bridge form the basic circuit, and it is packed by mid-morning.

The best hours are early and late, once the cruise crowds thin and the neighbourhoods return to their real size. Cannaregio and Dorsoduro give a more honest sense of the lived-in city, and the islands of Murano and Burano fill half a day. Travelling between November and January, expect acqua alta: high tides flood the low-lying areas and the raised walkways are part of the scenery.

In Venice you can book everything from museums, monuments and historic sites to local experiences and activities. Some examples: Venice: Doge’s Palace with tickets & optional gondola, Venice center walking tour (Semi-private) and Exploring Murano: the glass island. Each activity is run by a licensed local guide or company, and your booking is confirmed instantly.

How long do tours in Venice last?

Activities in Venice last between 1 hour and 3 hours, depending on the one you choose. The exact duration is shown on each tour card, next to the price. Full-day trips and excursions to other cities are the longest; walking tours and tastings are the shortest.

How much does a tour in Venice cost?

The price of each activity is shown when you open it in FareHarbor, our booking platform: tap "View price" or "Book now" on any tour. This way you always see the current rate and the age-based prices (adult, child, student) exactly as the operator publishes them, with no surprises at checkout.

How do I book a tour in Venice?

Pick the activity, tap "Book now" and the operator's calendar opens in FareHarbor. Choose the day, time and number of travellers, then pay by card. You will get an email confirmation with your booking voucher and the guide's instructions. No Toursen account needed.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

Yes, but the terms are set by each operator and vary between activities: some offer free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead, others require more notice. The exact deadline for the activity you want is shown on its booking page before you pay, and repeated in your confirmation email. Please check it there before completing your purchase.

Where does the tour in Venice start?

Each activity has its own meeting point in Venice, usually somewhere central and easy to find. The exact address, the time you should arrive and what to bring are provided by the operator on the booking page and in your confirmation email. We recommend arriving at the meeting point 15 minutes before the start time.
